Northwest Hydroelectric Association to Conduct Hydropower Scoping Study

Study will include environmental impacts, cost-effectiveness

The Council has contracted the Northwest Hydroelectric Association to conduct a scoping study on the region's hydropower potential. The study is scheduled to be completed by the end of September.

A number of recent regional and national assessments have identified significant hydropower potential. The study will review all of the assessments, with an emphasis on the potential in upgrading existing facilities, and factor in environmental impacts, including protected areas, and cost-effectiveness.

The study results will be reviewed by the Council and its Generating Resources Advisory Commitee in October and November.
